The comprehension of scientific literature (i.e., scientific papers ) is a vital component to the understanding of scientific and technological revolutions in the past and present. However, it is typically a skill that is not acquired until college. Our goal is to establish a foundation for reading this complex material that will ultimately provide high school students many valuable insights into understanding laboratory research.
This STEM workshop, involving biology and neuroscience, will provide students with the experience of working with professional journal articles to develop critical skills earlier than most. Students will also obtain some of the core skills needed to succeed in conducting research and show their comprehension of advanced subjects.
